Oil is one of the important things we use in our daily cooking. In India, different types of oils are used in different homes based on their food habits and taste. Groundnut oil, sesame oil, mustard oil and coconut oil are some common oils used in our kitchens. Many people also want to know how these oils are made and how they are taken from seeds.

Wood pressed oil (Kachi Ghani) is an oil extracted from seeds using a traditional pressing method. In this process, seeds are crushed with the help of a machine to take out the oil. This method is followed in India from many years and even today many oil manufacturers are using this process.

Understanding wood pressed oils

Wood pressed oil is made by crushing oilseeds and taking out the oil from them. Groundnuts, sesame seeds, mustard seeds and sunflower seeds are some of the seeds used for oil extraction.

In the traditional method, a wooden ghani was used for crushing the seeds. The seeds were pressed slowly, and the oil comes out through the pressure applied during the process. Earlier, people used this method to extract oil for their daily cooking needs.

Nowadays, wood pressing machines are also used for extracting oil. The working method may be different depending on the machine, but the basic process is same. The seeds are crushed, the oil is collected, and the remaining solid material is separated.
